NFS Browser not working, but NFS works via Zerconf

Post by boosh86 »

I've configured NFS shares on my Mac Mini HTPC running OS X 10.6.8 Server. MrMC can see and connect to the NFS shares if I use the Zeroconf browser or if I enter the share path manually (e.g., nfs://192.168.0.10). However, if I try to browse NFS shares using the NFS browser, the working spinner appears briefly and then disappears. No shares are shown.

The OS X Console shows the following error, with the port number changing each time:

Code: Select all

16-09-20 6:48:53 PM	sandboxd[28019]	portmap(28018) deny network-inbound 0.0.0.0:55677
16-09-20 6:52:35 PM	sandboxd[28095]	portmap(28094) deny network-inbound 0.0.0.0:60273
The MrMC log (debug mode) gives the following:

Code: Select all

18:56:06 T:6153252864 INFO: Platinum [neptune.http]: NPT_CHECK failed, result=-20014 (NPT_ERROR_TIMEOUT) [(result)]

Interestingly, I found a post over in the Kodi forum from 2013 about this problem. So maybe it's an unfixed bug in the Kodi codebase. If not, any ideas how to fix the problem on my end.

Okay, but my firewall isn't enabled. So nothing on my LAN should be blocked, correct? Also, NFS works via Zeroconf and direct IP address, so NFS isn't being blocked. How is the NFS browser different?

Just for the helluva it, I enabled the firewall and configured it to allow all traffic. Didn't make a difference.

The problem also occurs with my Synology NFS shares. More and more this looks like a libnfs issue or bug, so nothing to do with MrMC. I'm not going to worry about it anymore since NFS sharing works with Zeroconf.

NFS sharing is not working for me onATV4 either; neither for Kodi nor for MrMC.
I connecting to a Synology NAS. The connection works fine (through the Browser) on my Android streaming Box (Minix U1), so the permissions and setting on the NAS seem to be fine.

I do not see the NAS under Zeroconf; I tried a manual nfs connection by entering the server IP and Path but it was not able to connect either!

No solution yet for ATV4?

I use it on ATV4 , NFS from qnap... no special setup... all good here..

As stated, zeroconfig doesn't show the shares but addon manual IP workerd. Worth adding that I didn't put anything in the path, just IP and it showed a list of all available shares.

That is really strange! It must then be the Synology-ATV4 combination since, on the same network, Synology-Minix U1 works fine.
However, I managed to make it work with the manual nfs server addition (with only the IP; without the remote path; the shared folder shows up then!).

I hate to ask again, but does the nfs shares show-up in your nfs server browser?

No, NFS browser doesn't show any forders for me since qnap doesn't have an option to "advertise" NFS services.

It's then the ATV4, respectively the tvOS , since on the Minix U1 under Android 5.1 everything works just fine. Let's hope it will change in next iterations of tvOS.

Currently, I'm connecting Kodi and MrMC on ATV4 and Minix U1 to NAS over nfs instead of samba; seems more responsive overall.

I come a little late to this discussion.

But on my Synology NAS i discovered that if default admin account is disabled (which they advise to do) and the nfs rights are pointed to the default admin (which you have to set) you cannot browse nfs shares in mrmc. It’s simply a matter of changing (at least one source) to the user id of the newly appointed admin. you have to SSH into the NAS and change this with vi /etc/exports.

After that you can browse nfs shares.
