I have a hard time figuring out how things work. I don’t understand all this tech. My media mostly run dts-HD audio. I know I can’t passthrough it but I read this over at the Kodi forum:
Not so much ugly, but no MrMC - Passthrough (bitstreaming) audio works at all. (Apple tvOS limitation)
AC3, DTS, Dolby TrueHD & DTS-MA or HRA audio is decoded to multichannel 24bit 48kHz LPCM, for no loss in audio quality.
No passthrough means No Bluray Rip quality Dolby Atmos or DTS:x
->> the Dolby True HD or DTS-MA HD audio tracks will be losslessly decoded instead.
Does that mean I won’t loose any quality when playing media with dts-HD?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

no quality is lost but you do lose Atmos or DTS:X metadata from lossless codecs. atmos from DD+ does work. this is the same for other apps on tvOS as well.Alucardi wrote: 17 Nov 2019, 13:03 I have a hard time figuring out how things work. I got a great deal on a Apple TV 4 (60$). Do I just set mrmc audio options to 5.1 and Apple tv4 to dd sound output and it’s done?

MrMC to 5.1, yes. But, you should only set the apple tv 4 to dd sound if your system can't handle multichannel PCM. Otherwise leave it alone at best available.Alucardi wrote: 18 Nov 2019, 18:27 I got a great deal on a Apple TV 4 (60$).
