I don't think this is possible in MrMC but I would like to filter my video library by genre

You can do that by deselecting “flatten library hierarchy “ in library settings.
Going into movies will present you with nodes that you can select, one of them is Genres

Cool. I can disable flatten hierarchy and create genre, actor, director etc as a favourite. Then enable favourites on home screen and enable flatten hierarchy again. now I jump straight to the library like I used to but also have the option to look at genre etc fight from the home screen. Thanks Amit!
