What happens to TrueHD/Atmos content

Post by MisterID »

Hello :)

I just stumbled upon the solution of using MrMC on ATV 4K for having Atmos surround sound. But what happens to TrueHD audio when using MrMC? I read that EAC3 is supported but not TrueHD. My AVR supports TrueHD / Atmos and I have a 5.2.4 setup.

Thank you very much in advance for you reply.

TrueHD Atoms passthrough is not supported on tvOS (not even 13 beta 5). When playing movies with TrueHD Atoms track with Plex client for ATV 4K (native player, not the enhanced), my AVR switches to DTS Neural:X which up-mixes the track to give really a stunning near-Atmos result.

Since EAC3 is rather for streaming services while TrueHD is more for movies, do not hold your breath; if you have a DTS Neural:X capable AVR, use this up-mix and you are very close to Atmos.
