ive gone and downgraded to a Sonos 5.1 setup from an old AVR discrete 5.1 setup. or at least it feels that way.
my media has a mix of dts(hd) and dd(truhd) and atmos.
neither my old avr nor my tv (lg oled b6) passed hd codecs anyway.
what settings should use to get hdr but have everything come out dd5.1 as sonos doesnt suppirt dts.
i thought there was a setting to force appketv to output dd only but not sure what that will cause mrmc to do to dts track?

dts is not possible to passthrough unless you are on tvOS 11.2 or below.
MrMC will output multi-channel PCM for all.

Re: Audio Settings for ATV4k and MrMC
I guess i am after what will give me the best sound bang for my buck. Somewhere along the chain i will have to convert to dd if the track isnt dd already as that and pcm 2.0 is all sonos supports.
In my setup i have:
plex to atv4k(mrmc) to oled b6 to sonos beam
Id prefer not to transcode in plex but i think it will determine capabilities via edid and do so anyway.
atv4k has an option to force its output to be dd5.1 but i have it set to auto/best available. i guess for apps that are only pcm 2.0 or i suppose dd+? ps4 actually has a similar option. not sure if it would be better to let atv convert it or plex or mrmc.
otherwise my tv only passthrough dd and dts (not dd+) via arc.
ive taken to ripping ac3 track in addition to truhd/atmos but alot of my older blurays are dtshd with dts core so i need to create ac3 track for them (or let plex do it on the fly).

Re: Audio Settings for ATV4k and MrMC
Since DD 5.1 is required by Sonos I think you should tell MrMC you have a 5.1 setup (settings>system>audio) but in tvOS settings you make it output DD 5.1 and not the default PCM.buddyrich wrote: 03 Aug 2019, 13:01 I guess i am after what will give me the best sound bang for my buck.
