3D MKV

Post by walorith »

Hi,
i mentioned this point in my first impressions, but I think this is a better place to discuss.
Do you plan a 3D MKV support? Or should it already work?

Try it, as long as it's not some silly mode that requires switching the HDTV into some mode (no API for that), it should work.

Ok that's the point I guess. I will test later to switch the TV manually. Thanks

hmm, sorry it is not working. I also can't see the settings for hardware supported 3D. On RPI2 there were extra settings for 3D playback based on MVC. Is this due to other hardware or only not implemented yet..?

The iOS/tvOS does not support any way to alter the display settings. Those extra settings hook to those and they just do not exist.

I have a lot of frame-packed 3D MKVs (or MVC if that's how you want to call them), and I'm definitely not expecting them to play in 3D (that's what the RPi2 is for). There is an issue that I have with them though...

Currently, I have them all named 'Movie (Year).3D.SBS'. They all play perfectly fine in 3D on the RPi2, and if I want to play them in 2D I hit the monoscopic/2D for the popup and it plays it like if it was a normal movie.

When I try on the Apple TV though, I only get part of the screen, like it's zoomed in on just the left half of the movie if I select monoscopic/2D. If I rename the file and remove the 3D.SBS it plays exactly like what I want. It seems like it's thinking that it actually is a SBS file and not frame-packed. Not sure what's going on, but when I rename it, the file's that I've tried to play have been good and play as if they're normal 2D movies and as I would expect them to play.

Try renaming all your SBS to MVC... Kodi 16+ supports .MVC in the filename.

Hope there's a possibility of full 3D MVC (in ISO or MKV) via MrMC & ATV4 though.

Hi,
MVC within the filename is not working for me. I understand that there are two issues, right?: 1st, No API from aTV for automatic switching of 2D->3D or other resolution switching. 2nd, No hardware 3D (full frame packing) decoding implemented. For the 2nd point I don't know if it is a software or hardware problem? Maybe someone can comment on that?

Has anyone figured out a way for this to work? I have all my 3D discs ripped via AnyDVD to .iso. I was hoping to just convert them to .mkv (using MakeMKV) and have them play on MyMC, but it doesn't sound like that will work. Are there any other ways?

They won't play as 3D, no. If you have the MVC tag ('Movie (Year).3D.MVC.mkv' is what I use - thanks @hdmkv4k3d) they will play as a normal 2D movie, though.
