Capture Fire TV home button

Post by waldo22 »

Can you capture the Fire TV home button and take us to the MrMC home screen instead?

I can't tell you how many times I press the "home" button when I intend to press play/pause and it takes me completely out of MrMC back to the Fire TV home screen.

Curses are thrown at the TV.

Some video games do this, and add an "are you sure you want to exit" popup or something similar.

Please save me from myself.

So according to this:
https://developer.amazon.com/public/sol ... mote-input
Return the user to the Home screen. This is a system event and cannot be intercepted.
...but clearly some app developers can override it.

I think they may be watching the system console and parsing for the home button press, then suppressing the default action.

This is similar to what FireStarter used to do.

If this is "against the rules", how are these video games doing it?

By violating the API rules :)

Access to the 'home' button is not available for Apps for both Android and iOS/tvOS. The system owns that button.

That's disappointing.

When the video games do it, it's annoying.

If you did it, it would be glorious.

...until you got kicked out of the app store, that is.
