I tried to play my first H.265 video. Did not display video properly until I unselected HW decode support? 2 questions:
1. Does MRMC have support for H.265 in HW on FireTV?
2. The CPU usage was pretty low using SW decode. Is it better to use SW decode for everything?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

Re: H.265 HW decode support
I'll let the developers around here confirm this but if you're talking about the first gen firetv it doesn't have x265 hardware. The CPU will decode x265 but only at pretty low bit rates. Here's a recent article about this very issue.

I tried to play x265 on my gen 2 fire tv some time ago and it choked without hardware decoding turned on.Dave_O wrote:It's the Gen 2 FireTV
So, I'm surprised by your experience.
One thing to note is that when I make changes to a lot of the settings on the firetv I have to close down the app and restart it to avoid any problems from the change.....especially with something like hardware decoding. If I recall correctly the one time I didn't close down the app after changing a hardware decode option I got a blank screen.

FactoryCodec - Video: ff-hevc - Opened
Look like you have turned off hw decoding via MediaCodec. Turn it back on
Setting -> Video -> Acceleration. You want MediaCodec (Surface).
Please give details about "Did not display video properly". It should.

Re: H.265 HW decode support
I tried the suggestion, no change. The video plays, audio OK, but image looks like an old CRT TV with bad horizontal hold, with a blocky green diagonal line on the right. I've put a picture of it in the location I PM'ed
