Auto refresh rate switching issues

I am having problems with the auto refresh rate switching. The FireTV is set to auto video output. MrMC is set to "always" for refresh rate switching (also tried the on start/stop option but same issues). Pause is set at 6 seconds.

Everything I play suffers from pausing and jerky playback, with audio drops or audio out of sync with the video. The same happens on every type of file I have. All are MKV but can be SD or HD, MPEG2 or h264 or hvec, AC3 or DTS or TrueHD or DTS-HD. The "buffering" message also appears at times.

If I change the FireTV video setting to the correct output and play a file with matching refresh rate then all plays fine. So it is only ever occurring when refreshrate switching is enabled.

I had the same problem. I think what fixed it for me is disabling passthrough and changing buffering settings to buffer all file systems. I use plex. I still see problematic behavior when I use NFS which for some reason isn't actually buffering according to the codec info.

Thanks for that. I have just made those changes and yes - the video is now playing without stuttering, pauses and audio dropouts.

But - by turning off pass through I no longer have 5.1 audio (either DD or DTS) working.

is your audio setup at 5.1? If so it should output 5.1 PCM. Perhaps your receiver can't handle 5.1 PCM?

It is, but my FireTV connects direct to my TV and uses ARC to send audio to the amp. I know if I connect direct to my amp the 5.1 works fine - but then I lose 4K payback as my amp doesn't do 4K.

So I am back to the problem I posted about in another thread. To keep 4K and 5.1 with my current amp I have to use pass through.

I think that until either the team here can work out the switching problem or I get a new amp then I will have to manually switch the framerate via the FireTV menu based on the media. Not ideal as my collection is pretty much 50/50 23.976 and 25fps.

sorry, I forgot that was you in the other thread. I think you should just get a new receiver.

we will work out the switch/passthrough issues. can't leave that broke.
