Sync playback to display?

Post by Vetekli »

Im curious what the sync playback to display actually does, ive been experimenting with different settings to eliminate judder. When i set Apple tv to 60 hz i get really noticable judder in all apps.
When i set it to 50 hz its way better, but i still notice some judder during panning.
I tried switching the sync playback to display refresh rate on, in 60 hz output i dont really notice a difference. In 50 hz output the audio stutters heavily and the video feels sluggish.

Is the sync playback to display working as intended in Mrmc?

'Sync Playback to Display' is totally broken for iOS in the inherited code base (Kodi). I'd stay away from it for now. On the list to investigate.

From general user reports and our own usage, MrMC works pretty well with the defaults.

There are several factors that might influence what you are seeing. Native HDTV refresh rate (country, 50 or 60), if your HDTV has any goofy 'smoothing' features that mess with frame display. Actual video content. Audio settings. The list goes on and on :) I'd have to know much more details to even make a guess. For all I know, you could be feeding 4k HVEC content :)

Note that the ATV4 itself does not support 23.9xx display AND there is no API (under iOS/tvOS) to alter the display refresh rate even if it did.

It does work pretty well, im just a little picky. :) Most people probably wont notice the judder to be honest, but i do so it would be great if it was possible to get rid of it.

Im in europe, my TV does handle both 60 and 50 hz though (its a LG 50PK350). All "image enhancers" are turned off, audio settings is set to DD compatible reciever only, others default. Its a 1080p Matroska file Advanced Video Codec @ 13 Mbps.

Its probalby because of no 24p support (damn you Apple), dont know if it would be possible to eliminate with the sync playback to display, but if it is that would be great. At least i now know that its broken atm and that you might look into it in the future.

Thanks.
