choose decoder based on codec rather than global

This currently would apply to iOS and firetv (not tvOS since only ffmpeg makes sense currently)....I'm wondering if it would be possible to create in expert settings level mode the ability to choose what decoder is used for each video codec.
For example, recent updates changed so that live tv uses only ffmpeg because mediacodec was having trouble with h264 1080i50 (iirc). But being in the USA I get mpeg2 1080i59 material and mediacodec handled it beautifully.
So, just wanted to throw the idea out there in the hopes that users can get a little more choice.
