MythTV EPG crash & slow on load

For years I have been running MythTV .27 with Kodi & MRMC frontends. MRMC are on on Apple TV 4 units. I recently upgraded to MythTV v31 and MySQL 8. I noticed some issues that have carried over and figured I'd ask about them now. First issue I notice is that the PVR plugin takes a while to load and takes at least a minute before the "TV" section becomes available. When looking at the log after MRMC loads, I do see a lot of errors like: ERROR: CPVRTimerType::CreateFromIds unable to resolve numeric timer type (6, 1)

Then if I try to view the guide data from the TV section, MRMC closes back to the AppleTV main screen. When I view the MRMC old log, I can see the same errors as the example above, so it makes me think the crash and slow loading are due to the EPG. I do have a *lot* of recordings, so the slow loading may also be due to all the recordings. By a lot, there are several thousand. If I also try to view the recordings section from TV, it never loads as it just spins and spins trying to load data. Again, I figured it is because of all the recordings I have. I don't use the "recordings" section to view my PVR data - I have a process that renames my recordings, transcodes them, and updates the MRMC library instead, so I'm not as concerned with having the recordings section available.

I suspect the v27 vs v31 changes... I’ll have a look if there is any documentation on the changes. Might be tricky to test as I don’t have mythtv backend

Understood. Thank you for looking though. I know the long load time has always been there (even with version .27), but I was being hopeful that bringing it up to the latest 31 release would help.

I've been doing a lot of refactoring on this new v31 MythTV setup. I've been treating MythTV more as a file repository with all the recordings that I've been collecting over the years. It should not used as such; this is where the library of Kodi / MrMC comes in as it can handle a large volume of recordings. I decided to reduce the recordings MythTV tracks by removing any recordings older than 30 days. I already have the physical file moved to storage where library updates can pick them up, and just a sym link back to my MythTV recordings directory so MythTV still knows about the file. When I delete it from MythTV, it still keeps a "history" in the oldrecorded table so it can look for duplicate recordings. I have shrunk what MythTV tracks from 8600+ recordings to about 160. This took a lot of time to carefully clean up, but I now have a cron job that will actively delete MythTV recordings older than 30 days, so I don't fall back into the habit of "junk collecting". The other thing I had to do was redo the Schedules Direct guide data from the direct import method to the XMLTV grabber method. While doing so, I trimmed down a lot of unused channels or ones that are encrypted.

With all that said, the "TV" section loads within about 5 seconds of MrMC starting up. It is night & day difference from before. I can also use the actual recordings section in the TV plug-in. The shear volume of recordings I had before just couldn't be processed and would hang the plug-in.

Now I still see those repeating error messages in the log:

However, I don't think they are really hurting anything at this point. I came across a posting from a few years ago indicating it may be that Kodi is loading the timers before the plug-in is active: https://forum.kodi.tv/archive/index.php ... 37577.html

As far as the guide causing MrMC to crash, I have not gotten anything definitive in the logs except for one time with full debug on - this showed up in the very bottom of the old log when I got MrMC re-launched:

Now it is odd that my other Apple TV does not crash when I load the guide data. I'm thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling MrMC on this particular Apple TV and see if it fixes the issue. Doesn't seem that it is a bug if it only does it on one unit and not the other.
