iPhone Xs notch gets in the way of the screen

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up yet with the iPhone X being out a year but the notch for MrMC gets in the way of being able to access the left hand side of the screen and the menus. I just upgraded to an iPhone Xs from a 7 and discovered you cannot access any of the left hand side of the screen with the notch being in the way. I was going to provide a screenshot of the screen but it doesn't show the notch in the screenshot. I had to actually take a picture of the phone to show what is happening. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this on the new iphone with this app.
