I use NFS with my synology and MrMC (and with Kodi). Much much faster than using smb in my experience. I'm not sure if there's a reason why you want to use smb but if you want to try NFS I followed the guide here:- How to Connect your Synology NAS to Kodi

I'll give it a go and see if I have any success.

I also sideloaded SPMC the other day and that connects to the NAS fine through SMB. This is a strange one.

Yeah, NFS is consistently faster, regardless of small files vs large files, so I'd definitely recommend the switch to NFS. Fixing the SMB problem would be nice too though.

Quick test if you care about numbers backing up statements:

Code: Select all

dd if=/dev/zero of=test.img count=1024 bs=10m
116687950 bytes/sec [NFS]
vs
106927146 bytes/sec [SMB]

dd if=/dev/zero of=test.img count=1024 bs=10m
119037621 bytes/sec [NFS]
vs
106361664 bytes/sec [SMB]

So to update on this. I have sucsesfully connected to the NAS via NSF and can see all my video files.

Playback of a 4K video file is very jumpy to start with but seems to rectify itself after 30 seconds or so then plays back fine and at full resolution!

Not sure what the issues is with the jumpy start, it's a wired gigabite connection?

We are still sorting out the display switch :) Most of the time the pause/switch/resume behaves fine but sometimes it goes wonky. You might increase the delay before resume. Default is 4 seconds, based on my setup. Others might need more or can handle less.
