Sorry for late reply.
Do you happen to have a headset plugged-in ?
That's what the log says, at least.
If so,
passthrough capabilities are disabled, then, per design.
I am using the headphone out jack to connect my subwoofer, which you can do on the Sony A8G TV. There is a setting on the TV to use that as a subwoofer connection.

Well, unfortunately, looks like Sony is not smart and still reports a headphone connection to the android subsystem.
MrMC is a tad smarter than Kodi, and automatically disable
passthrough when a headphone is connected, to avoid blowing people ears with screeching sound.
As a test, could you unplug the subwoofer and check if MrMC gives you the
passthrough options?

Passthrough now appears to work. Debug log is DGQGS.log. Is there any way for me to disable this function where headphone jack disables
passthrough?

No, but I'm not sure it matters for your setup.
I understand you're using your TV speakers, with the subwoofer to add some bass.
Although your TV has some advanced speakers, I guess they still only output 2 channels, ie stereo, the subwoofer output being only a filtered output of the stereo sound.
In you case, enabling
passthrough would only tell who is decoding multi-channel, MrMC or your TV, but "channel reduction" would still happen, once again the setting only telling who's doing the work.
Do you hear any sound quality difference when
passthrough is enabled in MrMC?

Yes I hear a difference. The TV does virtual surround which is tuned to the specific speakers in the TV. It would be great if you had add a setting to disable this.
