1. You can set up MrMC to run update library on start, settings -> video ->. “Not sure exactly “ :)

1.a. there is update library buttons in movie lists, tv show lists.. all around

2. That is the exact reason for having MySQL, watch the movie half way on atv 1 and continue watching on atv2. Both Apple TVs need to be connected to the same database , have exactly the same MySQL settings including the database name
